What to do with too many reviews?

We added the review option back in April and have had some fantastic feedback over the months, but recently with certain products taking off in the search engines, we are getting (for hate of saying it) too many reviews. In particular on our Caddy Liners page.

I noticed that because you can only have the keyword 'Caddy Liners' so many times before Google starts seeing it as spam, that the reviews actually started knocking our rankings down.

We have had to remove some of the oldest reviews to make way for new ones, but this means also removing the figures that say how many people voted the review helpful. I only leave the latest five reviews showing.

    My point for thought!!!!

Would there be any way in future of allowing reviews to be assigned two ways by tick boxes.

Either activate to the products page, or optionally redirecting selective reviews to a 'More Reviews' page?

    Hi Kaye

Could you not edit the titles.... a bit. Hmmm I know there are probably not many alternatives to caddy liner. But it was just a thought that it might work as an instant fix.

    Cheers

Not a bad idea, and I have done that on a couple of other products to UP the ratings.

I just feel that every review is valuable and it certainly increases sales of the products because it gives much more confidence to new visitors. It seems ungrateful that a customer has taken time to write the review and I'm removing them again once new ones arrive.

Another option would be - to be able to 'shrink' or 'open/close' the reviews section with a +- option.

We don't use product reviews because our products are boring but why bother having titles for these reviews? If they show underneath the product they are reviewing then surely it does not require a title?

Dave, we find that although the reviews are supposed to be Product Related our customers tend to generalise about service etc, so they might say something like "good product, very fast delivery, great service will definately use this company again!"

So although the product may be boring and let's face it a "Sloggi Basic Maxi Brief" is not exactly exciting, the review is important simply to give other shoppers confidence. Seems to work well for us anyway.

            Hi Andy,

Thanks for that. Maybe I will start using reviews as it would be good for general feedback about our service and delivery.

How does Bluepark deal with a review when a customer orders multiple items? Also is it possible to only ask a customer for a review on their first order?

PS Like the look of your new site and hope business is good
            Regards,

            Dave

Dave, customers can place reviews for multiple items, every item they have purchased will be in the review request email and they simply click on the item they wish to review.

Not sure about reviews just for first order, customers will probably just ignore the review email if it is for 2nd, 3rd.....purchase of same item.

Thank you for the site feedback, we asked Giles at *********** to help us and he really has made a difference to the site and the conversions!

                Thanks Andy,

I have noticed in the configuration order tab that there is a check box against the follow-up e-mail box which when ticked will send the e-mail on first order only.

Would be great to have the same on the feedback request e-mails. Most of our customers always order the same products so to keep sending them e-mails asking for feedback might **** them off a bit!

PS Did Giles help also with SEO or was it just the design aspect?
                Regards,

                Dave

We have had several customers review several items in one go and again, they can cross-recommend products that go together such as shampoo and conditioner. Works great for us!

I hadn't noticed the tick box for first orders only, but then most of my customers are still first timers at the moment. Those who do re-order often buy new items because they like the first ones.

I understand what you are saying about items being boring, what's exciting about a plastic bag you may ask - but then reviews are even more important as to why they should buy from 'YOU' and why your boring item is still good quality for money.

I've now got 12 feedbacks on the caddy liners and decided to put them 'all' live so we can check the IBP report and see if they do any harm to the ratings.

I realised after putting them live that it gets to 10 reviews and then says 'Show all 12 Reviews'

This is exactly what I was trying to find out - hooray!

Only question now, is could it be an option to toggle to 5 reviews and 'Show all 12 Reviews'
