When I launched my BP site late Dec last year I somehow missed the fact that I could import all my old newsletter subscriber emails and automatically create accounts for them and have BP email them their sign-in details. So... when I launched the site I sent an email newsletter out using BP and temporarily added my email list CSV to the 'additional emails' field and (in the email) I instructed everyone that wanted to continue receiving emails to create an account and opt-in to the email list. I know... I know... stupid way to do it, but - as I said - I somehow missed the fact that I could import all my old newsletter subscriber emails and automatically create accounts for them. massive doh.
anyway... I've since discovered the ability to import all my old newsletter subscriber emails and automatically create accounts (woo-hoo!) so I'd really like to do this but leave all my current 350-ish BP users (who's emails probably appear on my old email address list) accounts untouched by the importing of old emails.
I have a CSV of all my previous sites email addresses (8000 of them).
I've just tried testing the importing of emails (took a little while to ensure that the header row was correct, even though I'm only importing just emails) and I'm a bit confused as I imported a test CSV containing two existing (test) account emails and a new email address. I unchecked 'update existing users' and got the message '1 row processed' but I can't find a new account and I didn't recieve a welcome 'you have a new account' email for my new test account....
So, a few questions:
1. If I DON'T want to overwrite my current BP users, would I UNCHECK the 'update existing users' checkbox or leave it checked? Clarification needed please.
2. I know from my intital emailing using my old website subscriber list back in december that of the 8000 emails, around 1500 got bounced back to me (my old site somehow hid that fact from me!). Anyone have any tips for how I can quickly/easily remove these dead emails from my 8000-strong list? I'm assuming that there's no quick fix and that I'd have to just delete these duff accounts manually when I start receiving bounced emails again after I've imported the 8000 list....
any clarification of how the whole import users feature works would be much appreciated as I'm slightly confused and don't want to overright any existing accounts (although I have downloaded a copy of all accounts).
