Changing e-mail templates - what do the codes mean?

I'm trying to change the e-mail in the language editor to StickyTigerfy them but haven't got a clue what all the different bits of code are - %a, %b, %c etc so I know what I can add.

Tried looking through the forums (or is it fori?) to see if already discussed but the search doesn't enjoy me do that!

When you say you are trying to change it to StickyTiger do you mean the signature in the e-mails which gets sent? The e-mail signature is in site-->configuration-->site-->signature

The %a etc are just variables that the e-mail templates use to pick information out of the database and I would advise you leave alone and just change any text to be more user friendly.

Thanks Dave - the latter was what I meant. I particularly wanted to put the person's name at the top (rather than just Greetings from ...) and know what other variables I had the option.

I can now see what you mean about leaving it alone as the meaning of %a, %b change as per each e-mail template. Unfortunately, I've already tinkered and the new account set up e-mail and it's now missing the code that actually gives them password - doh!

Is there anyone out there that can post (or PM) me the original template for this one?

You can copy the entire Language File as a backup before editing (obviously giving it a different name).

You can copy & paste any individual text into a text file or word document and save as a backup before editing.

Number one rule in computing: always take a backup before making any changes.

Why don't you just copy the code back from the stock english template? You can't modify this template so you must have taken a copy of it and tinkered with the copy which is now your default?
