Order of export file

Dumb question alert.....?

When doing a complete export how is the order determined in the csv file......doesnt seem to be sku, name or brand ?

As far as I am aware it will be in SKU sequence

A complete export should be exactly what is says on the tin, every field is in there and unless you have modified it yourself it should have a column shown for every field except User Groups and a few minor criteria( file group, Product Label etc).

Sorry I see that you mean the list order, it is sku which you can then re-arrange in Excel to brand, name or whatever

Hmm....Ok, old thread I know but its deffo not SKU, here is the first few of my SKUS straight from the download

The products are ordered by SKU. The "out of sequence" SKUs you're referring to are your variant SKUs, that's why they don't have product titles in the export. They are listed in the order of the product options.

Ok, cheers for that Rich. So could I populate the variant Skus with identical product titles from the parent ? How would this affect importing back into BP?

My problem is I would like to be able to sort my product csv say via Brand but to keep the variant skus underneath the parent ones. Does that make sense ?

Ok..did a wee test and this seems to import back ok but will be no good as when I re export it strips the variant titles out again

I see now what you want to do. There is an option to export variants as full products on the Advanced Tab. However, you must not import the file back in if you modify the export too much.

Hi Rich

This is a very small sample of my csv, (currently have over 4000 lines and this will grow). I need to be able to sort this file into some sort of meaningful order once exported. I need to keep the variant sku's underneath the parent skus. Been having a play and obviously because nearly every field is blank on the variant lines then no matter how I sort it just messes the order.

IF the export file filled in the BRAND for the variants then I think this would solve my problem. Is this something that could be done ?

I did see this AND the warning so didnt play with it too much. If i did go this route wouldnt I need to remove all the "added" variant options, before re importing, otherwise they would be imported as individual products ?

Ok....did another test and exported variants as full products back in and all seems good. So when you say "modify the export too much" what does this actually mean? Can i add / remove products to this export file and reimport OK
