    Adwords Conversion Code

Can I just check- do I place the conversion tracking code in Configuration > Order > Conversion Code ?

It seems logical that that is where it would go, but I got confused by the hover text as it says 'informing the customer of a successful payment' so I wasnt sure?

    Hi,

Don’t touch “Configuration > Order > Conversion Code”. Not 100% sure what it does, but it doesn’t give you the answer to “how much revenue do I get from my adwords”.

This is in Google Analytics. I assume you’ve set up Google Analytics as well as Google Adwords.

Analytics and Adwords have to be linked.

    Go to
Adwords – Reporting Tools – Analytics Settings – Edit account settings
    And
Tick “Share my Google Analytics data with other Google products only”

Now you go to Analytics (with activated “Ecommerce”) – View Reports – Traffic Sources - Keywords

and you get Visits – Revenue – Transaction – Average Order Value – etc etc by Keyword (paid / non paid) , Campaign etc and other filters.

    Hope this helps a bit.

Oh ok, thanks glad I didnt already mess with that then!

Bit confused about the instructions though- yes I do have Analytics set up, but cant find the Analytics settings you talk about in the Adwords...

Although when Im trying to set up the conversion tracking in the adwords it gives you a long bit of code and says to paste it into the source of your action page....but have no idea how I would do that in BP ...!

To the first part of your question:

The analytics setting in adwords is

        Green bar Reporting & Tools
        Dropdown to Google Analytics
        Headline Overview:.....
Then in brackets “Edit account settings”
        in Data Sharing Section
tick one of the boxes. We’ve done the first one.

Another point to mention, when you check the performance, Google Analytics (and I assume Google Adwords) measures only gross sales, i.e. no product returns. This could become an issue only if you filter too far down, when the data gets too small.

        To second part of question:

You can measure the product performance/keyword performance in Analytics and in Adwords.

The conversion setting in Adwords can be set for various tracking purposes (purchase/sale, lead, sign up etc.) . The actions required are different by tracking purpose.

If you have a tracking purpose “purchase/sale”, you just link Google Analytics and Google Adwords. No further verification or html “copy and paste” required.

If you have a tracking purpose “lead”, you copy and paste the HTML code into the, (let’s say, contact us page) the page content (in this case the contact us page).

Let me know how this works for you. PM me.

Thanks for that- Ive checked all thes settings now and didnt have to change anything, everything was as you said it should be. Although my Adwords state a 0% conversion rate, and I have run them (albeit minimally) for about a year. But it lists my last conversion as March 2010- just before we switched over to BP. So I have always just concluded that I needed to set it up somehow to work with the BP site, but never got around to looking into it. Now we want to run Adwords more competitively and thus need to see our true conversion rates....
The Analytics does show our conversions accurately so I know this is working, but not sure why the Adwords wouldn't be- unless we really havent had a conversion from them since last March (!) which I would find hard to believe...

the data exchange works after the time of linking.

You should see the results from now on. You did the linking today. They don't do historical data.

Is that exactly what it does??? Or have I been putting my adwords conversion code in the wrong place?

Sorry, clearly that should have said "Isn't that exactly what it does"

Cool, presumably I can also put other conversion codes in there as well? eg. shopping.com, facebook ads, shopzilla etc
