"Please check the e-mail address again for possible errors"

Why is it whenever I enter my email address during the checkout or contact form it seems to keep giving me the warning "Please check the e-mail address again for possible errors"?

There's nothing wrong with my email a far as I can tell so what is the criteria for displaying that message?

ok, but how does it check it's a working email? I entered a perfectly valid and working email (ie. mine) and it said "Please check the e-mail address again for possible errors" - so what exactly is it checking?

It's checking the domain part of it e.g. hotmail.com and not the "fred@" bit.

Until your site is live the email address (you@your-newsite.co.uk) won't exist. Other people's emails will work.

I've just sent you a test message from the contact page and it worked fine. I think the email validation checks for correct structure of an email address, i.e. xxxx@xxx.xxx You have an autoresponder set up for your contact page (which works) but with no message!

ah, like I found out with facebook yesterday it seems it's being a pain about what it considers a "valid" email address or not. Apparently it doesn't like "info@" (although "test@" works fine, so go figure). Is there anywhere I can change which pre-fixes it considers potentially "invalid"?

Plenty of my customers from other websites (mostly small businesses) use generic prefixes like "info" so the last thing I want is the checkout confusing them by telling them their email might be invalid!

I just tested my contact page, but didn't get an autoreply though...?

I don't think that's the issue as I used admin@ and info@ also seems to be OK. If you didn't get an autoresponse are you sure your email address is set up correctly? Did you receive an email from me via the contact form?

oh, there it is. Got my contact email straight away, but the auto response arrived 20mins later!

And as for the error message I can't replicate it at all now! even with the email that failed earlier...

I don't know when you moved the domain name over but it can take quite a while before all parts of the DNS work correctly. But good that it's all working now.

It was nothing to do with that though, I was using an email address from another of my websites...
