Changing Navigation button?

Hi, new here so please bear with me!

I have changed the image of the 'navon' function and all works, but I want the 'navoff' button (the navigation button that is there is not hovered over) to my own image too. I have created a new one but this just comes up behind the navigation buttons, not as the individual buttons itself. How do I change this?

Also, how do I disable the 'Tell a Friend' function?

Any help appreciated.

Hello and welcome,

To change the tell a friend option you need to go;

site > configuration > product

now scroll down and near the bottom there will be a check box for tell a friend, simply uncheck this box and then scroll back up and click the save icon on the top right of the page.

Do you have a link to your Bluepark site so we can take a look at which bit you are trying to change.

Also give us the breadcrumb for the back end so we can see exactly which nav over image you are trying to edit (I can think of about 5 different places you could be trying this!).

Thanks for the Tell a Friend info, will try it now.

The site is not live now to see the nav bar. Essentially I am using the Whiteshade template and editing that. I created a new icon called 'navoff' to replace the standard template one, and when I hover over the tab the new one shows. However I want to change the standard grey nav tab on top (when cursor is not hovering). I presumed this would be the 'navoff' icon, but does not appear to be.

(On your site the nav tabs are blue and the same when you hover but text colour changes. I would like the standard blue tab changed, not hovered).

Share the knowledge please!

Hiya,

For Nav button - go to template editor/navigation.... then to background image (4th section down/above hover background colour section) place your image in this field. The text is generated elswhere for each button.

This is what I have been doing, but instead of changing the actual buttons it just puts a background bar behind the buttons (the ones I want to change). So, it is just changing the background, but not the actual buttons.

I wonder if there is a way around this? I did manage it once before and I am sure it was doing it the way you suggest, but it is not working now. Any other ideas?

Our site uses no background or hover image in the 'navigation' section, the blue you see is the logo which has been inserted into header > background image.

The nav block itself is plain text and simply changes to orange when you mouseover.

If you provide a link to the betapark site, bpxx.betapark.co.uk (where xx is your number) we can take a look and see what it is you're trying to archive in terms of overall design as there may be a different and/or easier way of doing it?

Look at it this way, go to:http://www.johnlewis.com/

The nav tabs on top are black, and when you hover it goes black. I have created the black tabs and silver tabs. The black tabs work when I hover, but the silver tabs, as on the John Lewis site, are still the default tabs. If I chance the 'navoff' to the tab I have created, it just puts this as a background, and not replace the tab. I really expected the 'change background' to do the trick but it does not.

Not quite sure how to find the Beta link

We want the url of your website (whether it be on your own domain name or a betapark site) so we can see exactly what you are referring to.

ah HA! Found it! Bear with me a few mins whilst I type it up.....

Right you need to go into template editor then on the first page under the "site" tab you want to look at the Additional CSS (developers) box (3rd big box from the bottom).

Open this by clicking the "editor" link.

About half way down that code you'll see;

td.navout { background-image: url('/user/templates/whiteshade[1]/navoff.gif'); }

simply change the navoff.gif part to which ever file you want your navoff image to be.


Phew, spent ages looking for that, knew it was there somewhere!!


EDIT: you could also just go into file manager, navigate to the folder for the template you are editing and delete the navoff.gif file and replace it with your own image but make sure you give it the same file name (navoff.gif).

Ah, managed to sort it.

FYI, I had to delete the file called 'navoff' and save the button I want to use as 'navoff'. I was saving it as another name but it will only be recognised if it is named the same. Even if you point it to the new filename it will only read the 'navoff' named picture.
