    Customers also ordered...

"Customers also ordered" section of the product page

Does anyone know how this is calculated? Is it based on what else the last person to order this ordered? or is it based on the number of times (ie. the most popular items that sell with this item)?

And more importantly, is there a way to manually remove items from this list?

We have a product that lists 4 items that "customers also ordered", but two of them are incompatible with the item itself. It's likely that whoever originally ordered these together already owned items that were compatible so that made sense for them. But we've just had a customer who just added all the "suggested" items to their basket even though they clearly weren't compatible (indeed one had a clear warning message in the basket), but now he wants to return the items because they're not compatible... (sigh)

And even worse, if this is calculated on a 'most popular' basis, now TWO people have ordered these incompatible items it will make them harder to shift form the suggested list "naturally"...

In Config>product > towards bottom you can change the Customer also bought ...

If you put none, then use the 'related items block' to be more specific to your products.

Sure, but "customers also bought" is kind of useful in most cases, so I don't really want to get rid of it. I was hoping more to be able to fudge or reset the results on a specific product, or at least understand how it's calculated so I know how likely it is to "correct" itself in future. I guess I could put through a couple of fake orders for that product with some more appropriate items...?

Could work, it clearly is specific to each product

We use both customers also bought and related items, so we are quite happy if the customers also bought suggests something different as it may trigger an extra or different sale from the one the customer was originally thinking of.
