Offering variants, but limiting customers to only pick one

I would like to sell my paintings with a choice of framing options. Options/variants works beautifully to let people see the different frames and choose which one they like. Prices vary per frame type, so that's all working fine.

But, even though the base product has a stock level of one, it seems you can add every variant to the basket, so potentially they can buy the same original painting more than once in different frames.

Is there a way to manage this so only one variant of a product can be purchased?

Don't know if this will work, but in Product Editor> Value tab, near bottom, Inventory Management, fill in the Maximum per order to 1, it may work

thanks Steve, but I already tried that and it didn't make any difference, they can still buy one of each variant.
