HOW TO: Add a center block to the TOP of a page which uses the 'Checkout' layout

    Hi everyone,

I hope you are all doing well.

We have a shipping policy in place whereby customers are entitled to 'Next Day Delivery' but only if they order before 12 noon.

I have therefore created a block to inform our customers of this and to remind them that if they attempt to order via 'Next Day Delivery' after 12 noon, we will not be able to deliver their goods the next working day. This particular block features on the 'Checkout' layout and has its position set to 'Center'.

Unfortunately, the block features at the very bottom of the 'Checkout: Step 1 of 3' page, so our customers are not reading this important delivery information. I was therefore wondering first of all, how we can move this block to the top of the page, directly above where the customer selects their delivery method?

Secondly, is it possible to force the customer to check a box which confirms they have read and accept these conditions regarding Next Day Delivery, before being able to proceed to 'Step 2' of the Checkout process?

Many of our customers are elderly, so fail to read this information. If we can force them to accept our delivery terms before proceeding to the next step of the Checkout process, they have no excuses for why we have not delivered their goods, if they attempt to do so after 12 noon.

Third and finally, failing that, is there anyway we can disable the 'Next Day Delivery' option, between the hours of 12 noon and midnight? That is a big ask, but if there was any possibility of implementing such functionality, it would be perfect given these circumstances.

Any further advice or assistance regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

    Very Kind Regards,

    Joe

I agree. Some sort of time-bound next day delivery option would be very useful.

A quick thought regarding your disable the next day delivery option query...you could amend the option so it reads 'next day delivery (for orders before 12am)' or something similar. It's a little wordy but would be an easy workaround.

No solution for forcing the block to the top though...sorry!

You can assign a specific layout for checkout pages in Configuration: General Options. If you want the block to be above the main content of the page, then you will need to move the block above the "Content" block in the Layout Editor.
