    Email settings

I am almost ready to go live, however email settings are confusing me a little.
Support seem to be encouraging me to host email elsewhere, normally I would prefer hosting of email to be with that of my website. They seem concerned about storing emails on their server.

is it not possible to get settings from bluepark to point email to a client such as Outlook or similar that would not impact bluepark storage?

Normally you would setup your email addresses within the hosting then use the settings such as email address, password, ports and security to use a client that downloads all tye emails from the server thus having no storage issues.

    Thanks Ed

Hi Ed welcome to Bluepark! Im not an expert so I dont know if info helps but Ive been with Bluepark since 2012 and used to have my own domain email which is my website name etc (which is hosted by Fasthosts) set up on their system for all the communication emails to customers and newsletters. Badly created newsletters going out of Bluepark (by us lot) was causing some emails being marked as spam and going to peoples spam/getting rejected etc. It got to be a problem so I changed it so that I now use my usual email on BP but DNS settings are on Fasthosts and I now use Klaviyo for newsletters.

I had to have Bluepark help me on this as Im not great with this stuff, so i may have got some of the terminology wrong so dont do anything based on anything I said, do ask them as Im sure you can do it the way you are wanting to do it. Currently when i look in my DNS settings in Bluepark is says this "Your DNS is not currently hosted with Bluepark, due to your Name Server configuration" so may be they mean that. As you are no doubt aware they are very good and Im sure will give you more in depth help if you need it, just reach out to them. They have been amazing and unbeatable in helping me over the years. Good luck with sorting it out.

      Morning Ed,

Within 123-reg point your dns to ns1.bluepark.co.uk and ns2.bluepark.co.uk

In the admin control panel of your site with BP go into admin section and you will see options for Email forwarders and Email accounts.

Create an Email account with the Email address you require together with a password. When you click save it will give you the settings you need to setup your client on your PC/Phone.

You can also use BP webclient to access your Emails using your domain name followed by /webmail/ , there is a link to this at the top of the screen within the Email account section of BP control panel.

      Hope this helps.
      Regards,

      Dave

Thank you both, so am I right in thinking using a client will not impact on the bluepark storage?

Surely this method simply downloads the emails from the bluepark server?

        Thanks Ed

I would use IMAP instead of POP3 as it gives more flexibility. IMAP synchronises emails across multiple devices (PC's/iPhone/iPad etc) by keeping them on the server, while POP3 downloads emails to a single device and typically deletes them from the server. If you don't use IMAP you could potentially lose all your email history if your PC crashes unless you keep local backups.

You can see how much file, database and email storage your using by pointing the mouse over Data Storage (MB): on the home section of your sites admin panel. If you get close to the limit you can either delete some of the older emails to free up space or buy additional storage space.

Monitor it once you launch your site, I'm sure all will be fine.
          Regards,

          Dave

            Thanks Dave,
            Forgive my never ending questions.

Is there a choice of pop3 / imap within the bluepark settings for email?

I currently import my pop3 email addresses into Gmail using their useful account import function. This allows imap advantages of logging into Gmail from any device, but the emails are deleted on the server but saved within Gmail.

              Hi Ed,

No the POP3 & IMAP setting is set when you setup your client email in outlook, exchange or mail etc.

I would use BP for your emails. You should have plenty of storage space and given you don’t do massive email marketing campaigns it should be fine.
              Regards,

              Dave

I use Zoho for emails on one site and I must admit the spam filters are definitely worth having.

we don’t use the newsletter function on BP now, a dedicated email software will ensure your emails hit the inbox a lot better than using the inbuilt software.
                Regards

                Neil.
