    Sudden increase in form spam

Is it just us or has there suddenly been a large increase in the amount of spam coming in through BP contact forms? We alsways had an occasional few which looked like they were maybe done manually, but now we're getting bombarded by them. Did something change on the BP end? or has some new spamming app come out?

Out of interest are you using the old method of verification ie add the two numbers and enter result, or are you using reCAPTCHA ?
    Regards,

    Dave

        Please see the following.
Help protect your online shop from unwanted spam and abuse by requiring reCAPTCHA human interaction to submit your forms.

ok, that looks useful but it doesn't really say how to set it up. It just says, "Login with your Google account, tell reCAPTCHA which site you want to use it on, copy the two keys they provide, enter them into your admin panel and it's done!" - ok, but where in the admin panel?

We still use BP to send email newsletters and have just recently noticed a significant increase in the number of 'Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender' in our spam box when we send a bulk email. Message says that part of the BP network is on a blocked list.

When was the last time you cleaned your list properly. Using the likes of Mailerlite is worth its weight in gold, it’s all auto cleaned, I imagine most of your BP are going into spam.

BP needs to shut down the newsletter function to preserve the mail server reputation for the order confirmations.
                Regards

                Neil.

We're getting the same. We're not sending newsletters, but hotmail is suddenly bouncing confirmation emails because the server is "on a list". It's a shared server, so someone is spamming and getting the rest of us on the ban list. Happened a few times in the last month but we seem to get removed pretty quick.

Yes, it's Hotmail that we've been having a problem with as well - server on a blacklist as you say.

This is a good read in the BP Blog from Lisa posted in October. All technical questions to BP

I'm nearly ready to go live and wanted to use Bluepark for email, it seems it will be wiser to use workspace or 365, even support have suggested this.
A shame as its another level of complexity now to deal with.
This situation has affected my current platform to, it seems workspace and 365 are just about the only solutions essentially immune from these problems.

Good job you not starting with my set up then, 7 different systems interconnected by api

Seriously though it’s more the mail list and emails sent, BP should have got rid of the newsletter function years ago. You have to have a clean list and I can guarantee that 95% of the lists being sent by people using the BP system are no where near clean.

Out of the new system I’ll be going with mailersend as it’s the same company as Mailerlite, and they have a very high inbox hit rate. Newsletters will still go via Mailerlite. If you serious about building your business get a proper email marketing system in place.
                            Regards

                            Neil.

Ed, as you’ve said previously you currently don’t do any marketing campaigns via email. Therefore, for general sales and admin I would use BP. You can always move the email later to one of the companies mentioned in the latest update post if you start doing campaigns.

                              Regards,

                              Dave
