RAW image optimisation and a MAC computer

Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help. I want to buy a Macbook computer but Ive been told by Canon that their RAW image software isnt yet compatible with the new Mac OS Capitan. Also Irfanview evidently doesnt run on OS Capitan, so I wondered the following:

a) what RAW editing photo software people use?
b) what batch lossless optimising software people use, it must be capable of batch processing?

Any info would be very much appreciated.

Hi there - cant help with regards batching etc, but, I use a Mac, and have no intention (yet) of updating to El Capitan - I run on Yosemite. The only photo editing software I use is photoshop elements - works well for what I need it to do. Sorry, as I say - probably not much help with what you are asking!

I would imagine that the software you currently use runs with Yosemite? And, surely, it won't be too long before they integrate with El Capitan - it outdent really make sense for them not to?

For raw files (.cr2 for me) I use photoshop. If you haven't got it and don't want for fork out then I think adobe photoshop elements might open them for you.

Thanks to both of you it is helpful. I will have a look at photoshop elements and see if it does what I want if not I guess photoshop full version must do everything (one would hope). Thanks.

My son, who is a photographer and who shoots in raw, uses Adobe Lightroom which apparently is designed for batch work.

Thanks Chris will look into Lightroom too. I don't mind paying for something but user friendliness would be good. Thanks

Kim, Not sure if you know this......you can use Adobe software for a monthly fee. Saves having to fork out and buy it. You can choose which modules you want to use...take a look
