Is There A Way to Set Shipping Threshold to Units rather than Value

I have looked in Shipping Manager and cannot see a way to set the shipping threshold to be based on units. I am trying to set up a courier delivery to SA only because the post is just too unreliable with deliveries taking months on some occasions. My products are variable in weight but quite light. They do however take a a bit of space and so it is more sensible to base courier shipping costs on the number of units rather than the weight but I can't find a way to do that.

Don't think you can Gill. It's either value or weight.

Could you use Charge per item & Charge per additional item ?
    Regards,

    Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for your reply. I have been playing with charge per item and charge per additional item and I can't make it work. For something which is quite complex to set up the user guide is remarkably thin on info. I think I am going to have to email BP on Monday, since they don't seem to be monitoring the forum much nowadays.

Could you use volumetric weight rather than actual weight? We have to use that on some of the insulation products we use.

Now I had not thought of that. But what a task measuring all the stock and working out each volumetric weight. But it would work and be more accurate than just units. Thanks

Hi Gill, we only do it for certain products that cause "mischief" and if I am being totally honest, we sort of guess it. Once you do a couple you get a good idea of what the value will be. However we do not give these values to clients, they are just internal only, if you need to give them to clients that would change things.

                  Hi Shaun
Thanks. I am going to have a play with this as a method next week. After I said it could work I started wondering if it would.... people can order any mix of products and it is going to take some experimenting to see if it really would work. I know the volumetric weight of our various packing boxes and also what fits in each sort of box, which was why I started off thinking it would work if I could set up shipping based on units but now I am not even sure if that would have worked.
                  Thanks again.
