    Yell.com & Yellow Pages

As I have physical shop and local based business in addition to web sales I use Yellow Pages for smallest ad possible. Just had the rep in for next year.

Has any one got experience or know SEO benefits of getting a listing on Yell.com before I get the cheque book out?

Come to that any other views on Yellow Pages?

I would say save your money and/or invest it into Google Adwords, also add yourself to Google Local http://www.google.com/local/add/anal...gl=US&hl=en-US

I honestly don't know of anyone that still uses Yellow Pages and having had ads on Yell.com I can hand on heart say it isn't worth it.

There have been very interesting threads recently on business forums the about the billions of pounds of debt they have - how on earth a company can run debts into the billions is beyond me - they have just secured further financing but were facing closure only a few weeks ago.

It is worth doing a search in google about yell.com (or PM me and I can find the threads for you that were of interest).

Personally despite all the facts and figures the yellow pages rep will show you I really don't think it's worth advertising in the yellow pages but I am sure someone will be along soon to shout me down

We are giving yell.com a try this year just to see what it brings in. After all we spend more on adwords in a week than what it costs for a year to advertise on yell.com.

However, we have only had one sale via yell.com which is pretty crap. But we do appear on page 1 postion 5 of Google (listing from Yells site).

was wondering if the link on yell.com will help page rank
But £550.00 for one link a bit pricey

For a purely web based company would be surprised if yellow pages printed book would be worthwhile but as I have physical shop too???

Well I don't think it would hurt your page rank. As for price we paid less than half that figure.

Depends what you sell and what your target audience is maybe? I doubt most of the younger generation will use yellow pages but maybe the older less computer literate people might? Only way you will know for sure is to ask everyone who comes into your shop how they found you. Then be ready for the stupid answers such as...My son gave me a lift or On the High Street etc

Dont bother with Yell.com! We signed up to a 12 month campaign across 20 areas costing £16,000. Yell.com quoted figures of 1000+ clicks per day and the truth was 72 clicks a month.

We employed a law firm to start legal proceedings against them and finally settled out of court.

The links helped a little bit to get up the search engines but it was not massive.

Save your money and look at getting listed on more smaller directories.

Yes Dave I agree but we wanted to hit the South East with the new site and Yell said they could do it in a big way but failed massively.

Not many people use Yellow Pages or Yell.com especially the people who want tools, toner cartridges or hot tubs they are all Google savvy and will search endlessly for the best deal.

I spend a fortune each month on Google, Yahoo and Bing and that is the only way I have found to get consistant traffic and sales.

Do you get a reasonable amount of traffic from PPC on Yahoo & Bing? We use Google and were thinking about Yahoo & Bing as well. Do you get orders from UK customers which have come via Yahoo & Bing?

We get a lot less traffic from bing & Yahoo but it is cheaper CPC and appears to get a better conversion rate for sales ( less tyre kickers!).

Wouldn't bother with yell.com - that would pay for alot of clicks on adwords.
Yellow pages I gave up on after 2 years - Does anyone actually use it these days?

I'd say that Yellow Pages still has some value as a marketing tool but that's dependant on your business. It works very well for businesses with a small catchment area, like beauty salons, hairdressers, garages etc.

As for Yell...I think most people use Google as their default search tool. I think online directories have pretty much had their day other than to peddle links for seo.

I paid £99 to have an enhanced listing on Scoot...how many clicks have I had...1. Compared to 11 in the same period from FreeIndex (which was free).

Save the money and either invest it in some proper link building, some seo copywriting, blogwriting or seo software depending on what you need.

Important note: Page Rank and inbound links are not as important as many hype them up to be. It's fairly easy to find a site with low PR with better serps than one with higher PR.

I got a plumber in the Yellow pages. The printed one. Great guy, great job.
