    Website Advertising

    Hello

Ive been spending quite a bit of time on google adwords lately with very random results, e.g. ill get one or two days with great sales then 5 days with no sales.

Ive been looking through all the sales data and I cant work any pattern out, the sales just seem very random, which has got me thinking is adwords the best place to be spending my time if I want to increase my website sales.

What Advertising does everyone else here get there best results from when it comes to sales on there website?

    Thanks

    Kevin
    Regards

    Hi Kev,

Adwords is a very good method of driving traffic to your website but you have to keep an eye on your spend else it can very easily get out of control and cost lots of money with very little sales.

Keep an eye on your keywords and alter the bids to try and get better placements and don't always try to be No.1. By altering your bids you can be No.2/No.3 and still get plenty of traffic but at a reduced CPC. Also considering changing/removing badly performing keywords.

Are you uploading your products to Google Base?

We don't use them but have you considered the price comparison engines such as Kelkoo, Dealtime, Price Runner Etc ?

Also work on the SEO side of your website to try and get more traffic from the natural listings on the major search engines. Putting your signature/anchor text in the signature of any forums you use will also help with SEO.
    Regards,

    Dave

      Kevin,

One thing you did not talk about in your posting: The cost.

Driving traffic to website via Adword is very easy. To stay in business in the end of a month of using them is the hard bit.

Dave said it all - It's about the cost - and you must keep a very close eye on the costs.

Tere difference between the Adword and Organic traffic - the second is a slow process - so if you can spend a little time on a rtegular basis on Adword just to get traffic (though it may not be as profitable as you would want it to be) while spend more time on building organic traffic for the long term.

      PS
Building organic traffic can also cost money, not only time.

        Hi

Thanks for the replies, I only spend a minimum on adwords, I have lots of relevant keywords but only pay a small amount per click, Im using adwords just to build up my customer base really, hopefully ill get a few repeat customers

What I was thinking is it better to spend more of my time on SEO and building up links or spending time creating a facebook, twitter account for my business or maybe a blog, I have heard positive comments about all of these, also because my website sells a lot of unique items I might try advertising in newspapers or magazines, has anyone had any experience with this.

        Thanks
        Regards

        Kevin

Our main company use magazines and newspapers, but it is far from a cheap way of advertising.... but it does work, the bulk of our leads come from newspaper adds.

            Hi Adam

I have seen a lot of adverts for the type of products you see in the newspapers, if the advertising is expensive I suppose it would only work for high margin products.
