    SEO Help Needed, Please?

    Hi all,

I've been putting off writing this post for a while now, but can't wait any longer really. I moved across to BP in July and whilst I am delighted with the improved platform, support and package, I do have a significant issue with SEO. I have waited to write this as I assumed that there would be some impact on SEO on the site but 3 months on I'm really worried.

On our previous (rubbish) platform, we had 1st page results for a very large chuck of our pages, at a time when page load times were 3-times longer than they are now. 3 months on, and since the move to BP, we have almost no pages hitting any results within Google. And I'm at a complete loss.

I put in place 301 redirects for every product, category and page which were live at the time we launched the site. Everything I have ever known to do on SEO has been implimented, various links (non automatic) have been tried and I have also checked rankings for new products in case it was something specific to previous pages - nothing.

As a couple of examples... A new product was added (http://www.themicstore.co.uk/wireles...ic-system.html) which is new to the UK and almost no-one has added this as yet. When I do a general Google search, nothing comes up. If I limit the results to UK-only results, this is the result:

    google snippet.gif

As you can see, it is picking up the sitemap not the product. The full search if you want to see it is: http://www.google.co.uk/search?clien...w=1440&bih=681

As another example, we recently launched a series of seminars across the country called TheMicTour. This is a unique term, not in existence before we launched 9 days ago, and still Google will not bring up a result on our site. Google picked up a Wordpress Blog post I did at the time within 10 minutes, abut nothing on the main site. This tour has also had multiple press releases launched pointing to the landing page (www.themictour.co.uk/themictour) and still nothing.

One of the only searches that actually ranks is on our name itself (themicstore) which comes up as the top result, which is understandable, but also shows that Google has not blacklisted the site for some reason. Incidentally, Google Webmaster results show 1010 indexed pages. Google Product Search results work ok.

I am at a complete loss of what to do, and having been involved in internet marketing for 5 years, it is frustrating the hell out of me. Is there anyone out there that can give me any suggestions as to why this might be?

Sorry for the rambling post, but wanted to make sure that anyone in a position to try to answer had sufficient information to work with.

    Thanks,

    Matt

Have you checked your backlinks? The links listed on YSE do not appear to exist, or at least I can't see them. I tried to view the pages on the wayback machine to see if they were there in the past but it's down for the weekend.

PS i've only started to learn SEO this year and I understand that YSE may no longer be supported so sorry if my suggestion is way off.

Hi Matt - I've just checked you out on Google and Bing using the search term you gave in your post. Google - nowhere, Bing - Page 1. So it looks like it's a technical issue between the site and Google. Just a few ideas....Are you using Ajax on the site? Your URL for products looks like http://www.themicstore.co.uk/live-vo...l#.TpHdvrKyDoo With the #.XXX at the end of the URL.This can be a problem for search engines. See this from Google. Have you checked webmaster tools for problems? Very frustrating for you and obviously not good for business! Greg.

Have you fetched the page as a search engine would see it, I wonder whether Google can read your content. There is a lot to be said for having a simple, tabless, no frills page.
        Regards

        Neil.

Just to let you know I ran the page through the spider simulator we use and it can read the page fine.
          Regards

We seem to do fine with YSE but there's not a great deal of traffic coming from there. Appreciate the suggestion though in any case

              Hi Greg,

The Ajax thing is actually a tag added on by AddThis to track how many people are sharing link addresses (and actually quite interesting results). Webmaster Tools shows 700-odd backlinks which is the wierd thing. But I just checked our stats and we got less than 10 natural link visits last month for a site that has 1400+ pages, with nearly 2-years in age, and 1,500 visits per day. It's so frustrating because almost every visitor is having to be paid for which seriously affects our profitability.

              Cheers,

              Matt

Thanks Neil. Checked that also but nothing wrong there as far as I can see either. Hmmm

Strange also that yahoo and bing hardly have any of your pages indexed either.

Am curious and this is a long shot, but you are not using BP name servers. Would this have any effect, think not, but....

Hi Matt - I would remove AddThis for a couple of weeks and see what happens. Greg

Doubt it is add this as i have had it on my site for years, as have hundreds of sites.

That tracking code doesn't show on most pages either.
                        Regards

Matt - have you run it through webmaster tools - I am wondering if your robots.txt is to blame in some way? There has got to be something stopping the spidering/indexing - you haven't accidently banned googles bot have you - maybe if you have any blocked IP addresses, copy them into a document and remove them all and see if that helps. Failing that you seem to have a few third party scripts on there - things like customer review block, add this etc - I'd strip all those out and see if that makes a difference.

We came from the same previous provider and I don't have any of those issues so there has to be something within your site that is causing a blip, and my guess is that it is a third party script of some sort.

Google tends to be the 'Mountain View' if you have any extra stats packages installed. Took me a while to work out who they were as they are on my sites up to 6 times a day.
                            Regards

Have to say I do agree with this - your URLs aren't "standard" and that is the only obvious thing that makes any sense.
