    Loyalty Points Scheme

A big thank you to Rich for the new loyalty scheme - Rich you are the best

I've already activated and am about to send out a mailing to the customerbase but then I dithered.... have I set the point value correctly or not? So I thought I'd ask the forum. The default value of a point was a penny in the £. That seemed a bit low to me so I have set mine at 3p... have I been mean or generous. Views please.

    Thanks

Still working on how to deploy the Loyalty Points, but we have set the value to 3p as well. We are considering 5p actually, as it effectively amounts to the same thing as a 5% discount, which seems like a reasonable incentive. Certainly a 1% discount/payback seems a bit miserly, and may actually put customers off.

      Hi,

I think the big high street loyalty schemes like Sainsbury's and Tescos only offer 1% but when you are spending every week on groceries it soon mounts up (unfortunately!). Boots Advantage card is apparently worth 4% and is the best on the high street. I have been doing some online research. But the advantage to these retailers is not just customer loyalty. Use of the loyalty card gives them data on their customers. Data which, as online retailers, we already receive so I guess it is a straight calculation. A margin trade off for repeat business. In these more difficult trading times I am going to stick at 3% and hope that it will be enough when added to our great customer service and lovely product to keep and increase the customers coming back.

      Cheers

Fair comment, and thanks for the stats on other companies.

"our great customer service and lovely product"
Can't comment on the customer service, but couldn't agree more about the lovely product...

        Regards

I considered the following before chosing the value of the loyalty points:

          1. I calculate and found out that if I would have done the same volume of business at Bluepark as I did on eBay UK last year, I would have been more than 40% better off (I Compared CA, eBay and Pay Pal costs vs. Bluepark and Credit Cards costs).

          2. About 20% of buyers at eBay were repeat buyers, and about further 10% more went back to my StoreFronts outside of eBay.

So I have plenty of margines to give the Loyalty Points. I will go to 10% (The rest of the badget that was created based on the above will be spent on scrapping Shipping Charges, creating a web of sites and adwords).

We will probably set ours initially to 3p and see how it goes. It is very easy to increase it in the future to encourage more sales if it appears low but more difficult to reduce it if you start high!

                Hi,

Just to let you know I did settle on 3% - it seems fair since Uk customers already get free shipping and international customers pay less than the actual cost of shipping. Have set it as a news ticker and sent out the newsletter so traffic surge today as regular customers check out the situation.

Once again a BIG THANK YOU to Rich/Bluepark - really the most excellent.

We have to be careful as we also supply discount codes to members of various car clubs/forums. Apart from 'cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer', not sure how to stop someone using both schemes.

So in addition to the 5-10% (dependant on whats ordered) discount theyre also earning loyalty points.
Think we'll set the loyalty points to 2% and bring down the rate of the discount code to a flat rate of 5%.

Does anyone else supply discount codes to certain customers ??

                  Thanks

It might help you to know that loyalty points cannot be used in conjunction with discount coupons - in the same way that gift vouchers can't.

                        Rich,

Just to expand on that, does that mean if someone uses a discount code they will not earn any loyalty points for that particular order ?

Likewise, if someone redeems loyalty points then they cant use a discount code at the same time ?

                        Thanks

Customers will receive loyalty points for all purchases, regardless of whether a discount is involved. A customer can't redeem points alongside using a coupon code, however.

                            Hi

I have just implemented the loyalty program, as I have a wedding stationery and craft business customers tend only to order once (assuming they only get married once), but I am working hard to encourage repeat business. This functionality is great as it is something none of my competitors seem to have so I will be giving it a go.
Have set mine at 5% to see what happens.

                            Thanks

                              Bringing back an old thread....

do any customers complain that they can't use a code and loyalty points at the same time?

                              Thanks
