Converting non buyers & recommend a friend

    Hi,

We get orders from about 10% of visitors, so 90% (or thereabouts) are interested and looking around but not converting. Trying to think of ways to capture their details or entice them to buy. I've seen on some sites the screen go dark and a 10% offer for today only flash up.

Just wondering if that is possible or worth a try?

Keen to tap into these lost opportunities.

Also is there any way of recommending a friend and getting a voucher for both parties?

    Thanks

    Toby

    Hi Toby

It's a horses for courses thing, personally nothing turns me off more than those pop ups you mentioned.

However I'm assuming they must have some effect on a certain % otherwise people wouldn't do it.

The voucher for both parties is pretty simple and something we do, we give a voucher with our review request email to the customer and dispatch a printed voucher for the recipient to use should they wish with their gift.

      Hi Toby

A 10% conversion is very good for e-commerce although it is frustrating most websites are normally operating at 2-5% conversion.

You are well above the norm so I would look at ways to drive more traffic as you will get more that way than risk losing what you have with gimicky offers.

I tend to agree, when they pop up within 10 seconds of being on the site, I hit the back button

I would put a leaflet in each parcel regarding the 'Tell a Friend' discount , but I'm not sure how you set it up on BP

I agree about pop ups... they drive me mad and away! Worse the other day I clicked on an ad for household furnishing only to find a pop up that wouldn't close and I could not go further into the site before I gave them my email address in return for a discount code..... a BIG switch off for me. Needless to say my visit cost them money and I won't be shopping with them!

One thing we're considering (not live with BP site yet) is a 'notification bar' from these people http://www.notifysnack.com/.
Seems that you can have a changeable message at the top of webpages. Not as intrusive as a pop-up.

I would love a 10% conversion rate or even the 2-5% average! so as Chris says "work on driving more traffic to your site" and if the conversion rate drops a little you should still be doing great business.

Bluepark does have a ticker tape newsreel type thing that you can link to your news/blog pages.

Well as annoying as I find those pop- ups, I did trial one over a weekend about a month ago, and boy did we have a really good weekend.

Basically it it popped up on exit and we offered a free sample - most people ended up adding extra to their order as well. So yes they work, but you have to get you offer right.
                  Regards

                  Neil.

                      Hi Sarah

If you use mailchimp to handle your email subscriptions they have a useful pop up subscription tool.

Info is here, not used it but looks straightforward enough

I used picreel.com - worked really well. They have a trial if you wish to have a go.

Thanks everyone - lots of interesting feedback.

Just signed up for a 30 trial of picreel. It is asking the following - is there an easy way of adding this?

                            • Just paste the following snippet before the closing </body> tag on each page of your site.

                            <script src="//assets.pcrl.co/js/jstracker.min.js"></script>

                            Thanks!

Go to template editor and scroll down in the first tab (site). You will find a section called Closing body (developers). You can add it there and it will be on every page before the closing body tag.
