Finally there but a little bit lost

    Hi there,

So our new site is finally live (yey) but after the last few months with EKM I seem to have lost a lot of regular customers and finding it hard to get noticed.

My site is www.babynotincluded.co.uk selling Funky Clothing and Accessories from Newborn to Toddler age. It is live and functioning but not all products are live on the site yet which will change over the next couple of weeks.

I think I've got a lot of work ahead , going back to basics so if you have any tips or recommendations then I would be grateful.

I'm currently having a sale on the site. 20% Off Everything using the code happynewyear so feel free to take advantage of this offer for the duration of January.

Whilst still feeling a bit battered from EKM I'm ready to get my site back functioning again.

I would love to know what you think of the site as well.

    Best wishes

    Lisa

The first image in your footer isn't showing.

That's because it is pointing to an HTTPS version in the link.

      Code:
      [URL]https://www.facebook.com/babynotincluded.co.uk[/URL]
Change it to HTTP without the "S"

      Code:
      [URL]http://www.facebook.com/babynotincluded.co.uk[/URL]

Love the idea & the products! And I'm sure you'll experience a lot more success at Bluepark than you had at EKM.

But I do have to strongly agree with Neil, it's not even about personal taste on my computer, I have a large monitor on my computer (23 inches) and I had to leave the website after a minute because it was hurting my eyes.

The menu seems to be jumping around for me. For example click t-shirts & top and then if I hover over yummy mummy & stuff everything below jumps about !

Agree with the background. On a wide screen it's too distracting !

Also couldn't find telephone number and address details which you should have on your site.

With regards to your regular customers have you sent them an e-mail re the new website launch & sale ? Also did you do the re-directs from the old to new URLS ?
            Regards,

            Dave

You can tone the background down - i did it on our site but cannot remember how, probably just altering the brightness and contrast- so it keeps the same feel but does not distract.

Hi Lisa - Nice site, and some great looking products - but, I don't like the background one little bit - it is very striking, but it distracts me from looking at the actual site content. I only looked at a few pages, and then came off, because of the background. Other than that, I think its a nice site…will tale a closer look once the background is "subdued" a bit lol

I like the idea of the background, goes well with the rest of the colour scheme, but I have to agree, it needs to be toned down a wee bit, I would tone it down to match your Add to Basket , Add to Wishlist, etc buttons.
Love the name by the way

Thank you so much for all of your comments.

I have sorted the image and it is now displaying correctly.

I hear you with the background. When the site was first designed I was quite shocked but now I really love it. I will have a look at how I can tone it down as I don't want to lose customers because of it.

I did send out an email when the site first went live, but unfortunately not a lot of clicks. The last few months have been really awful. I had periods where I didn't have email for days and then it would return only to lose it again a day later. The site kept disappearing and lots of other little technical problems that meant people where coming to the site but not sticking around.

I have resubmitted to the search engines and am using social media. I'm loathed to spend any money due to the loss incurred over recent months. I didn't know about URL redirects. I knew that you could do that for the home page but not all the categories, products etc.

I know that I have a lot of hardwork ahead of me.

Add a link to your website into your forum signature and the search engines will pick it up virtually straightaway.

Not had much time to forage but agree with the side menu jumping, you've either padded/changed one instruction and not the other (targets are listed at the bottom in template > your template > menus tab).

Site / Template Manager - In your Template, go to the Menus tab and check that your LINK FONT and your HOVER LINK FONT sizes are the same.

Thanks, will look at the padding and I have now added a signature as you will see.

I've just signed up for Instagram which is a bit of a novel idea but looks like it could be a lot of fun if not distracting. I'm babynotincluded if any of you want to follow for an insight into the behind the scenes madness.
